Documentary Film Night on June 19 from 5–8 p.m.

Immerse yourself in Dresden’s electronic subculture

Come join us for a special movie experience! This Friday, we’ll be screening a documentary titled “Disturbing the Peace in the Cosmos – The Paul Fröhlich Office.”

The film explores electronic music, idealism, and shared visions of a better world. It also delves into themes of friendship, family, and love.

Let us take you on a journey through Dresden’s electronic subculture and make yourself comfortable in our theater seats.

Hands-On & Open House on June 23 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Together, we’ll take care of the Neues Volkshaus Cotta

Volunteers, tenants, and other dedicated individuals meet to tidy up the building, clean, carry out minor repairs, and maintain the interior and exterior areas.

For interested neighbors, the day is a great opportunity to get to know the building. For parents, history buffs, and local residents, parallel events are taking place:

Open parent-child meet-up from 10–11 a.m. (consultations with midwives)
Open consultation hours from 4–5 p.m. (also by phone)
Meeting of the Neighborhood Culture Working Group from 4–6 p.m.

The Neues Volkshaus Cotta thrives on participation from the neighborhood. Many of its regular programs are made possible by volunteers. We’re grateful that this allows us to offer a diverse program for different generations and interests. Organizational tasks related to the center are also partly handled by volunteers. Feel free to stop by and see how you can get involved!

Accessible entry to the grounds is via the path from Steinbacher Str. (between nos. 18 and 20).

Open Parent-Child Meetup on June 23 from 10–11 a.m.

Consultation with midwives for (expectant) parents

Feel free to come to us with any questions you have about pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting during the first year. Twice a month, we offer counseling sessions led by midwives and supported by our staff, who have training in early childhood education and social pedagogy.

Unfortunately, there are stairs leading to the premises—but we’re happy to help with the stroller.
If possible, please bring your chip card with you to the counseling session.

This program is part of the ESF Plus funding initiative.

Join the Neighborhood Culture Working Group!

Next meeting: Tuesday, June 23 at 4 p.m.

The AG Stadtteilkultur is a working group of people who want to get involved in the Cotta district. The members of the working group want to network and support existing initiatives in the district together with interested Cotta citizens.

The working group meets regularly every 4th Tuesday in the new Volkshaus Cotta.

There is an article from March 2025 about the commitment of the AG Stadtteilkultur: https://kirchspiel-dresden-west.de/news/neue-wege-fuer-die-stadtteilkultur

"Market of Opportunities" on June 30 at 10 a.m.

The Cotta Neighborhood Council is visiting the Neues Volkhaus Cotta

This closed event for professionals in social work, youth services, and education is a project of the Cotta Neighborhood Council.

Open Parents' Café on June 30 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

We’re planning a group building workshop

On June 16, we want to keep brainstorming what we can build together! We have various tools at the Neues Volkshaus Cotta, and we can work together to build something out of wood before summer break. It could be a birdhouse, a deck chair, or something completely different. Feel free to bring your own ideas!

The Parents’ Café at the Neues Volkshaus Cotta takes place every other Tuesday and is a place to get to know one another and engage in conversation. On some dates, we collaborate with other projects that also offer advice on selected topics—but fundamentally, the Parents’ Café is a place to network and spend time with other parents, mothers, and fathers, as well as a space where you can bring your children. We have a large garden that offers plenty of space to play and run around, and we also have everything you need to organize a barbecue or other activities. Just stop by and join in!

The last date for the workshop at the open Parents’ Café is June 30.

This program is part of the ESF Plus funding initiative.

Just come and enjoy a relaxing evening in our garden.

Feel free to bring something of your own to grill.

If there is interest, we can also take a look at the public areas of the Neues Volkshaus Cotta together.

The next date is June 30.

99 years - history and stories about the new Volkshaus Cotta

In the period 2026-2028 is the 100th anniversary of the Volkshaus Cotta. We look forward to your help in this context! The house has been brought to life by so many people, ensembles and initiatives over the years. Every story, every picture and every document is an important part of it.

That is why we invite you: Share your memories! Whether it's a personal anecdote, an old photo or a drawing - your contributions are invaluable. Help us to preserve the stories surrounding the Volkshaus Cotta and make them visible for future generations.

Let's discover together the many facets of the former "Richard-Gärtner" district cultural center, which many of you will surely remember as the "Rote Hütte". We have collected treasures from private and public archives - from chronicles of the "Spielbrett" theater group to rediscovered photos of the reopening in 1980 and finds from the Deutsche Fotothek.

Together with the volunteers and project manager Yvonne, you can develop and present your personal project idea in two ideas workshops. Perhaps you will find like-minded people in the group who would like to work on an idea together.

Finally, we will support you in bringing your project to life. To do this, you can take part in our monthly meetings. The entire offer is free of charge.
